Like his musical hero, Rob Garrett was a Brooklyn, New York native.
In the spring of 1974, his parents brought him from New York City to the Las Vegas Valley, where, in 1976, he witnessed his first live Neil Diamond show when Diamond debuted in Las Vegas to record crowds at the Aladdin Hotel’s “Theater for the Performing Arts” in July 1976.
Garrett went on to see him 16 more times across the country—right up until Diamond’s last American show at the LA Forum on August 12, 2017.
In 1980, Garrett started his own band, “Rock n Roll Heaven,” and enjoyed a decade-and-a-half career in Las Vegas and across the nation before making the move from cover band frontman to a full-time tribute performer dedicated to one of his musical idols.
In 1995, Garrett was selected by the legendary Paul Revere to portray Neil Diamond in the world-famous “Legends in Concert” review.
What was meant to be a three-month trial turned into a three-year success.
By August 1998, Garrett was back in Vegas and continued to perform with “Legends” for another two years before deciding to create his own tribute production.
He began a busy tour circuit, building a large and loyal following along the way—earning the title “King of Diamonds Neil Diamond Tribute.”
He continues to perform to sold-out venues nationwide, often in venues reserved for national acts.
Garrett has also won numerous awards, including “Male Tribute Artist of the Year.”
“Since he (Diamond) announced his retirement, I’ve felt a strong sense of responsibility to keep his legacy alive for future generations. It’s something I never get tired of doing,” he said.
On May 19, 2025 officially proclaimed the date “Rob Garrett Day,” commemorating his 50 years living in Las Vegas and 44 years as a professional Vegas performer.
Now in the year 2025, Garrett celebrates 45 years on stage in Las Vegas, with the last 30 years devoted solely to paying tribute to the now-retired Neil Diamond.
It has been said that no other tribute artist is so closely identified with the original performer as Garrett, who has performed his show at more Las Vegas venues than any other tribute artist.
